WordPress.com Desktop App vs. LocalWP vs. Browser: Which One is Right for You?

Choosing the best tool to manage your WordPress site depends on your needs. Below is a detailed comparison of WordPress.com Desktop App, LocalWP, and the Web Browser.

1. LocalWP (Local by WP Engine)

LocalWP (Local) by WP Engine is a local WordPress development environment that makes it easy to create and manage WordPress sites on your computer. It’s great for developers, designers, and agencies who need a fast and easy way to work on WordPress projects locally before deploying them to a live server.

Step 1: Go to localwp.com and download

Choose the correct version for your operating system (Mac, Windows, or Linux).

Step 2: Create Your First WordPress Site

  • Open LocalWP and click “Create a New Site.”
  • Choose a site name (e.g., prodxcloud.local).

Select a setup type:

  • Preferred (default settings optimized by Local)
  • Custom (choose PHP version, web server type, and database)
  • Create your WordPress admin credentials (username, password, email).
  • Click “Add Site” and Local will set everything up.
